Interesting FB Exchange — Both Barrels!

I had a fun Facebook exchange recently. Someone posted an intriguing post. It caught my eye, because it contained so much stupid in a very compressed space! That was nice of the poster. Made it easier to blast the post with both barrels.

Here’s the content of the original post:

“Seems obvious. Conservatives are people who are afraid of The Other and who perceive enemies all around them. They want a leader who promises to (1) protect them and (2) punish their enemies. Trump does this all the time. That is why he wants his followers to believe that the Coronavirus is a nothing burger and they need to be afraid of Anarchists and Antifa. And of course black people. Always black people.”

Looks like fun, eh? Well, so I had some fun with it. 🙂

Here’s my first reply:

“Joe Smith (Editor’s Note: Not his real name): This is satire, right?

I’m a long-time Conservative, and have never once met a Conservative who meets EVEN ONE of your particulars.

I’ve attended hundreds of politics-focused get-togethers with thousands of Conservatives, and no one has ever said, done, proposed, enacted, approved, endorsed, sponsored, suggested, or even HINTED at anything that would even come CLOSE to meeting your description.

In every case, the general theme was: “What would be the best, most effective and humane way to REDUCE the powers held by leaders, such that ALL people could have the greatest possibility to thrive, unhindered by the heavy hand of the government?”

More particularly: all discussion centered on some variation of making it LESS possible for a leader to protect us (internally), and LESS possible for ANY leader to punish any “enemies.” Nor has any Conservative I’ve ever met EVER referred to those who merely disagree with us as “enemies.” Jokingly? Sure. I’m a former baseball player; I used to refer to the opponents as “our enemies.” Joking.

Joe Smith: Your post is such a moronic, bigoted, brain-dead, ignorant, vicious, stinking, slimy pool of malicious ludicrosity (my word, but I like it) that it HAS to be satire. NO ONE could POSSIBLY be that stupid!”

That was the first barrel. Here’s the second. My second reply followed immediately after the first:

“Joe Smith: Would this be okay?

“Seems obvious. Democrats are people who are afraid of The Other and who perceive enemies all around them. They want a leader who promises to (1) protect them and (2) punish their enemies. Democrat leaders do this all the time. That is why they want their followers to believe that the Coronavirus is apocalyptic and they need to be afraid of little old Tea Party ladies, and the NRA. And of course straight, white men. Always straight white men.”

As untrue as that would be, it’s more true than what you wrote.

• Democrats today ACTIVELY support the abolition of the First and Second Amendments.

• Democrats on college campuses OPENLY attack Conservative speakers.

• Democrats on college campuses ACTIVELY suppress the speech of their enemies — those who merely disagree with them.

• Democrats in the media ACTIVELY suppress the opinions of Conservatives in their publications and web content.

• Democrats in HUGELY powerful media AGGRESSIVELY suppress Conservative speech on their platforms.

• Democrats in Hollywood ACTIVELY and OPENLY exclude and suppress Conservative self-expression.

• Democrats in Congress OPENLY support these efforts to squash the freedoms and rights of Conservatives who merely disagree with them.

None of the above particulars is in dispute in America today.”

Let’s see whether “Joe Smith” responds, and how.
