I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For

For a long time, we’ve been using the following phrase: The new fascists will come waving the banner of anti-fascism.

We were pretty sure that we hadn’t made it up ourselves in the Praetorian noggins, but couldn’t find it on the web.

Then I found it!  or I thought I did: Winston Churchill was alleged to have said: “The Fascists of the future will be the anti-fascists.” However, according to this site, he never said it.

Some say that Huey Long said it, and others pointed to other sayings that weren’t close enough to say they were the proper progenitors of our phrase.

We’re still forced to conclude that we coined it.

It does describe today’s free speech-squelching, baby-slaughtering, eugenicist, power-grabbing, money-grubbing, American Left, though.

Still, we’d like to give credit where credit’s due, and tip our Praetorian hats(1) to the coiner of the phrase. We’re still looking for him or her, though.

Notes:

(1) Hmmmmm… wonder what a Praetorian hat looks like!
