The Drudge Headline Reads…

Anthem singer at HEAT-76ERS game kneels during performance…

If I were her employer, I immediately would release a statement similar to the following:

We are aware that Denasia Lawrence has her own political views and that her views are important to her. These views are sufficiently important to her that she felt emboldened to impose her expression of those views on thousands of basketball game attendees and hundreds of thousands of television viewers of this game.

While we do not in any way wish to stifle Miss Lawrence’s ability to express herself, there are appropriate venues for such expression. This game was not one of those venues. We have terminated Miss Lawrence’s employment here, effective immediately.

We would like to take this opportunity to issue a statement about Miss Lawrence’s act: It should be apparent to all that Miss Lawrence decided on her course of action because of a simple fact: she lives in a country in which one can do such a thing without any fear whatsoever of political consequences. This is a serious argument in contradiction of the conclusions that Miss Lawrence has drawn about our country.

However, to take action that reflects poorly on our business, to be a public boor, to impose one’s political views on people who were here to view a basketball game, are all inconsistent and incompatible with our mission here. We are not a political organization; we are a basketball team.

Presumably, Miss Lawrence will exploit our organization, and her deeply inconsiderate act, as a springboard to a career as a political activist in some other company or foundation. It is deeply unfortunate that she has fraudulently taken advantage of the generous offer this organization made to her in inviting her to sing our National Anthem. This speaks very poorly of Miss Lawrence’s character, and any future employer should take note.

Finally, despite our disappointment at her betrayal of our organization, and of our fans, a lot of people who have treated her very, very well, we wish Miss Lawrence well.

I immediately release a statement similar to this one: Denasia Lawrence has a nice voice. Too bad she’s a moron.

  1. @x: We have decided to start something we are going to call “xPraetorius Watch” as kind of a tribute to your “NPR Watch.” We’ll try to call out those times that you have written something great. Why? Well, because you have written some of the finest comments we’ve read in recent times. Here’s one paragraph that is one of the best written in recent history:

“However, to take action that reflects poorly on our business, to be a public boor, to impose one’s political views on people who were here to view a basketball game, are all inconsistent and incompatible with our mission here. We are not a political organization; we are a basketball team.”

“We are not a political organization, we are a basketball team.”

    That phrase alone!

I’m sorry, but we Lol’ed for a long time after that!

    Viewer

  2. Many thanks, viewer, for your very kind words!

First of all, who is “we?” And, you do realize that we don’t do the NPR Watch series in order to praise National Public Radio, don’t you?

    Best,
