We live in the Information Age. If you want to look up something, you can. Period. I don’t care who you are.
If you suggest to me that you’re educated, then there’s no excuse whatsoever for not having one of two reactions to any given important topic, question or issue: (1) I know a lot about it, and would be able to discuss it intelligently with you, or (2) I don’t know enough about it to discuss it with you, but I’ll find out about it soon enough.
In light of all that, there’s simply no excuse whatsoever, either, for someone’s claiming to be a socialist.
The depredations of the disease of Socialism and its various strains — Fascism, Communism, serfdom, Islam, (modern-day) liberalism — are out there. They’re knowable.
Socialism carries with it: death, impoverishment, enslavement, despair, and sometimes even society-wide psychosis, as in the cases of Nazism, Stalinism, Maosim, Islam, Kimism, Castroism.
Last century alone: 120 million murdered. To put that in perspective, Hitler’s death camps make up only five percent of that staggering, incomprehensible total.
It was said that in Josef Stalin’s Soviet Union, every single family lost a member due either to middle-of-the-night disappearance by the secret police, never to be seen or heard from again, or to some other way in the human-crunching system of the day.
If you were a person who valued freedom, and if you were careless enough to mention that to anyone — anyone! — you too would have disappeared and been murdered. Even if you didn’t mention it, you frequently disappeared.
One hundred twenty million murdered by socialism in the last century. That’s a third of the current American population. You’d have difficulty achieving that death toll with ten hydrogen bombs detonated simultaneously over the United States. Yet Socialism managed to exterminate that many around the world during the Twentieth Century.
As science marched onward, and men walked on the moon — six times! — there were staggering advances in computers, medicine, telecommunications, information processing and dissemination, mathematics, physics, astronomy and more. And yet, the Twentieth Century will go down in history as the Century of Death. All because of Socialism.
“The Black Book of Communism” has been available for a long time now. It’s a mind-numbing compendium of the millions upon millions upon millions upon millions of atrocities committed in the name of Socialism. The Gulag Archipelago has been available for decades to read. The death, dismemberment and despair of Socialism are all well-documented, and readily available for any and all to see.
There’s simply no excuse for calling oneself a Socialist. Either Bernie Sanders is a complete ignoramus, or he’s a vile human being. A lunatic.
Someone ought to say that. Out loud. Often.
